('79) Coupling clamp.. 12 pt socket size?

Default ('79) Coupling clamp.. 12 pt socket size?
I got my steering column coupling repair kit and am ready to replace it but... there is a 12 point bolt head I need to take out. Anyone know the size of socket I'll need sooze I don't strip the heck out of this one?

it's a 7/16 12 point.

Easy one - had the socket & screw in the top drawer of my tool box!!!

7/16 12pt socket, deep one if you have it. I just did mine and reused everything except the rubber discs. Good luck.

(why would they not just put in a regular bolt with a regular head???)

Those bolts are 'capture' bolts...so you need to completely remove them in order to disassemble the coupling ends from their mating shafts. They are machined to specific size & shape, so I don't think you can replace them with any 'standard' sized fasteners.
