Default T-Top Trim removal Question

I'm stripping the t-tops paint on my '69 and didn't know if I needed to tape up the chrome trim or if I should drill out the rivets before they'll pop off.

Also. there is a tiny chrome trip on the windshield wiper door and 2 side door pieces. They looked painted on so I'm guessing I'll just have to remove and paint in the color I'm painting the car.

Hi PV,
The ss trim on the side of the roof panel is easy to remove by drilling out the rivets and easy to replace. The same thing is true for the small piece of ss trim that 'joins the front and side pieces.
The front piece is harder to deal with since it's 'crimped' into place. Some people remove it and some leave it in place while painting.
The ss trim on the wiper door and top/rear of the fenders was painted, except for the little raised bead at the rear of each trim piece. Taping that bead works.
Regards,
Alan

IF you drill out the rivets you'll need to also drill a small hole in the corner of the under-side of the top panel to get the rivet shanks out.... otherwise rattles!

awesome.

So the crimped side...if I remove what are the chances I ruin it in the process?

And how would I go about getting it back on?

I went ahead and removed it....seemed like the right thing to do.

Wasn't that hard and hopefully it'll go back on okay...although the rubber seal on it was pretty dried out...might think about replacing if they make that part.

Hi PV,
I believe Bairs Corvettes in north western Pa. is reproducing all 3 roof panel trim pieces.
