Default 82 Side-pipe question

Hi all, I like side pipes. I have read they are a bit loud and are best for short trips which is fine as my 82 is not a daily driver. I don't know much about them though and my biggest concern is are they legal in California? Will my 82 still pass smog if I install them or do I have to remove them and replace them with the factory exhaust when I have to smog it. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Sorry Travis, but I think in Cali you're pulling them........unless you can get a mailing address out in the high desert perhaps.

Thanks, I was hoping that wasn't the case but ......... How difficult is it to swap the pipes with the stock set-up when necessary. Is it too much of a pain to do it or is it a 1/2 day job?

You will not want to swap them to pass emission and then reinstall
