The power window on the driver's side will go UP but will not go DOWN. I've done some basic disassembly and diagnosis and have determined that I DO NOT have electrical continuity on the blue wire running from the (D/S) power window switch to the motor connector. [checking between the D/S switch connector and the motor connector contact for that same wire.
I DO have continuity for the brown wire (same run of wire).
I do not have a schematic of the power window wiring, so I'm not sure if my problem is a break in that blue wire {somewhere?} or if the P/W relay could somehow be involved.
Maybe the switch is bad or lose in the center console?
Why not pull the parking brake console and switch the left and right to eliminate that possibility.
Already done that. Switches are fine; connectors are fine. Like I mentioned in first post, no electrical continuity on the the blue wire going to D/S motor.
Still looking for electrical schematic for the P/W circuit....to determine if the relay could cause my problem, or not.
Exactly what I needed, cor66vette. From that schematic, only the 12vdc [input] line goes through the relay. So, that can't be my problem, as the right window and the D/S 'DOWN' positions still function.
Sigh.......
OK. It's time to cut open the rubber boot in the D/S door jamb to see if that blue wire is broken in that area (the most likely place for a fatigue breakage).
My problem was a completely severed wire inside the weather boot between the front door jamb and the door. The insulation was broken completely thru on the other power wire, as well. The ground wire appeared to be fine.
But, I made up three 1.5 inch long jumper wires from some fine braided electric range burner wire (same awg size) with butt connectors on each end. I cut through the other two wires with just enough wire exiting the car body to get stripper and crimper onto them. Also put a length of heat-shrink tubing on each one before crimping...then put tubing in place and shrank it down. I didn't have a "pretty" solution to sealing the weather boot back up, but it should be waterproof. (Not that it sees much water!)
Buttoned it all back up and all works as expected. Hope I won't have to do THAT again in my lifetime (or on the other door ). What a PITA job.
