I find Turtle wax scratch and swirl remover then black turtle wax works great if you have the whole weekend to polish just wondering what others use on there cars
I like to use Carnauba Waxes either Mothers or Meguiars are my 2 favorite brands. Then put on 2 coats in the spring and fall. If the car is really dirty I like to use a cleaner Carnauba Wax from both of these manufactures. I do have a car a 1992 Miata where the paint is so dead and to shine it up I use the new polymer style polishes and use a cheap Nu Finish Polish 2000. If I use any kind of wax on this car it strips the paint off than comes off than colors it blue on micro fiber or cotton rags I use because the paint is just that dead. But is shines after I am done
The reason I asked the question was so I wasn't harming the finish being a fibre glass car I was not sure but sounds like any good car polish will do.
Paint is Paint does not matter what it is covering and using high quality products to get it to shine the way you want it to is the end result. Buying cheap Turtle Wax or other inexpensive products is not the answer I have found out years ago cheap products require more elbow grease. I want to be able to put a thin layer on and take it off without a lot of glaze. The more glaze the product puts down the more you have to remove.
I use Turtle Wax Ice paste wax on mine. No white residue, lasts a long time and easy on/off.
Turtle Wax Ice is a brand new product this year and they are trying to get into the game of the more expensive products it is polymer based which is good goes on light and comes off clean from what i have read on the product.
Depends on the level of correction. Megs105 seems to be necessary to get a lot of "mistakes" out of the 78's paint (it was stored under a "soft" cover outside for a while). If it's not that bad, then I'll use Menz SIP. Really mild will be a nano finish.
Topcoat with colinite wax.
SIP works great on single-stage cars, but the 78 has 2-stage now.
After doing some polishing work on my sister's 92 Mustang:
Just my $.02 you need to learn about what each product does before attacking a car's surface. You need to compare apples to apples unlike what is happening already in this thread. There is a car detailing forum on here that you can spend hours reading.
A polish is an abrasive. It should only be used once a year because it removes clear coat while doing it's job removing scratches, swirl marks, etc. If you dont have a clear coat you need to be careful. You will notice your pad turns the color of your car because you are removing paint. A glaze is a filler and doesnt provide that much protection & doesnt last long but provides a deep wet look. A wax or sealant protects.
Normally I use a polish in the spring because there is a need, otherwise all year I use a clay bar and glaze and a wax. There should not be a need for anything else. Look and feel the surface to determine what you need to do. This is a very simply chart to help determine what process to use. http://www.autogeek.net/detailingtips.html
