A friend of mine has a 69 Corvette I'm looking at and I was trying to get a ballpark figure what the car might be worth, it is a numbers matching 350/350 4 speed car with fresh interior and factory ac. Mileage 62,000, but he is not sure if it's correct. Thanks for any help.
Hi 198,
That's really quite a nice looking 69 in the pictures!
I agree that the many, many, things NOT shown will have a BIG impact on the car's value.
If you take a look at parts in the interior and chassis which appear to still be original to the car you can begin to get a feel if it's a 62k or a 162k car.
It'll be interesting to see under the hood and to see what the chassis/running gear looks like..
Regards,
Alan
A Corvette dealer in Pensacola Fl has a 69, numbers matching, black on black, 350/350, 4 speed in A1 condition for 35,000.00. Of course it's been on the market for awhile and is also being sold for a private owner so I would tend to think the price is slightly inflated.
Look at the speedometer and see if the numbers are white. This should be green like the other gauges.
Inspect the headlight bezels for three things:
1. Damage
2. Make sure the bezels are pot metal, replacements will be fiberglass.
3. See if the factory headlight washers are still present.
You should call you local Corvette club and see if they know someone who can check the car out with you. Two sets of eyes are better than one.
It is a good looking car. Good luck with your purchase.
Good advice here. Really nice looking Corvette, nice interior and looks.like it's in decent shape. It's not as dry looking as a Cali, Arizona or your typical Southwest car. I'd either bring somebody along as mentioned or I'd pay to have it inspected by a competent shop. If it all lines up and you get this car, you will have a great time, driving a fun, good looking Corvette.
....and the next question is what are you looking for a project, driver, or high quality original?
Based on the pictures not too much attention has been placed on keeping the car original more along the lines of keeping the car drivable.
Are you OK with that?
I just looked at one at a dealer and he was asking $26000. car was gone when I went back.you need to look at the body mounts to the frame and the bird cage around the windshield.
The dash may have an aftermarket cap on it and i see zip ties on the brake lines in the back but i sure wish that my x-member in the front under the engine looked as good as that one.
I have been looking lately and here is what I have found. You can find a very good driver, small block, in the 18-22 grand range. Most have either new paint or a new motor. Some have both. Most asking prices are inflated approx. 2-5 grand. Most have been on the market for quite some time. It takes a very specific buyer. Learn what you really want and then don't compromise on the big items. This particular car is also an A/C car. That's worth more, no question. Look for matching numbers for the motor, and good condition. One thing I know to be fact. You can buy em already done , for the most part, cheaper than you can build one yourself. That's just the market right now. It is a very good time to buy. Big blocks start around 22-25g. Really nice ones with everything working are around 30g. Of course these are my opinions but it is based on current info and 30 plus years of working on old cars and trucks. Hope it helps. Good luck and remember-cash talks!!!
