Wow, this was said kind of tongue in cheek like a joke. I didn't realize some people are so sensitive about the subject. If someone thinks their life is going to change because their car is referred to as a Stingray or not, they really need to get a life.
My `76 is 1 of a 46558. Obviously an amazingly popular model but not the top C3 production year. That was 1979. Or maybe 1978. Not sure but it definitely started with a 19.
I love it when people tell me that since my car is a "Stingray" it's faster than the other 73's... lol! I wish more people that wanted to talk cars had a little more knowledge.. I don't pretend to know all the stats and players names of the our football team (KC Chiefs). Just saying, a simple "nice car" works just fine.
I read thru all the posts. I still don't know if the originator of this post believes his '76 Stingray is rare or not. I never liked the Vega steering on the '76. Ya'll remember the Vega GT's with the racing stripes?

He knows it is not rare and was using it Tongue and Cheek with a huge smile on his face. Probably laughing his *** off now with all the replies
I remember people putting V8s into Vega GTs when I was growing up
My early '77 has a lot of '76 parts. Does that count?
And I had a Vega GT with racing stripes. Bought it new in '73. I miss it. Lots of fun to drive when it was running. I was offered a nearly stock 262 and automatic with all the parts to switch out my highly modified four banger for it from one of the local racers when those came out in the Monza. Ford tractor sleeves and pistons fixed all the alloy block problems and made them bulletproof. That would have been a great ride back in the day.
Went to our local dragbstrip tonight to race my car (got rained out). Someone came up asked if my 76 was a Stingray. I said yes, he informed me there were only about 100 of them built. Said its a rare car and worth a lot of money.
He was a nice guy trying to be complimentary, but only 100 made.
Thinking of taking it to Barret Jackson, Lol. Unless anyone wants to make an offer.

Yet this is one of the most frequently posted and hotly debated topics. Gets tiresome.
Can we talk about oil or ethanol or something for a change? Headlights that won't come up?
or when people come up and say "man there aren't any dents, rust in the body, nothing" had one guy say that his dad ordered a 77 L82, in 76 with the bubble back glass, it was an option he said. and another that said he just pulled out an original 402 big block out of a 72 vette. and a factory 327 out of a 74...... its endless....... and annoying

Yes, I definitely know my car is not rare.
It made me smile when the guy at the track told me there were only 100 made. I thought it was entertaining.
I did tell him they made thousands and thousands of Stingrays and only a few are rare but not mine.
He did have all of his teeth and was a nice guy, obviously misinformed about Stingrays. He was racing a new Mustang, maybe that explains it (not too smart) (just a joke).

Just a little history by 1977 year of the C3 Corvettes there were 500,000 sold. It was a milestone year for the C3s. Most produced model year was the 1979 C3. The 1978 year over 15,000 Anniversary models were sold more than any other body/interior of the model year.
I missed buying a 1976 by one day when I was searching for a Vette. Sold the day before I could get out to see it. It was a rare Buckskin exterior and interior with a 4 Speed Manual Tranny and leather interior. There were rare cars in the 1976 Model year 2954 sold in the exterior color and even less with the Leather Interior that was an option along with the L82 engine and Manual Transmission.
