The right rear brake in my 78 started squealing when I would apply the brakes ,,,today it started squeaking all the time and when I put the brakes on it changed to a higher pitch squeal as soon as I let off thr brakes it changed to a lower pitch squeal.. Pads and roter is all good.. What is going on ?? Thanks
Often the misconception, is the squeel is caused by dust/glazed pads..more often than not it is caused by vibration.
When replacing disc pads, it is advisable to also purchase the disc brake harware kit as well, consisting of new clips, etc.
They make a disc brake quiet spray (it works temporarily if the pads are glazed), and they also sell a product that is similar to silicone for the back of the pads, to help absorb that vibration, as well as stick on brake shims.
You can try to remove the pads and file or grind a 45* chamfer or bevel on the leading and trailing edges of the braking material. This can reduce vibration caused brake noise. Doesn't cost anything other than your time.
