I have the opportunity to buy a 1981 corvette it is pretty rough was a silver car with a bad black paint job but there is no body damage. It has the original drive train glass tops but it will need a new dash seat covers and carpet steering wheel ext, pretty much everything inside. I can not find any rust in the bird cage but I found a tinny bite of rust in the top of the doors inside where the window channel is above where the door latch is. It will need all new weather stripping. I have restored cars before but never a vette I can get the car for 3000 will it be a money pit or is it worth doing a frame off on. I have pictures in my photo album the spots on the car is the black paint coming off not bad spots in the body you can see the silver under it

It looks pretty rough. Remember, it's almost ALWAYS less money to buy a real nice car than to buy a dog and make it nice. Applies to all cars and motorcycles, not just Corvette.

it all depends on your budget and how much of the work you can do yourself. the interior parts of these cars can get pretty expensive so do your homework before your commit to it. as for the "frame off", be careful it's a slipery slope that leads to a serious case of the "while i'm at it's", once you start down that path you need to be 1000% commited to it because it will suck the life out of you. it's worth it in the end but the path can be a challange.
Welcome to the world of Corvettes. That person who owns that car feels that the word Corvette makes that a 3000 car. Not to be mean its just not.
I would not get into that car at 3K because you are looking at some $$ to fix it up and then you will be into the car pretty deep. I agree that Interior is very expensive and if the car is nice on inside it might be worth a go.
I would offer cash and less of it. Just remember that you need to be committed to the build.
all these cars are money pits, they're not as bad as boats but pretty close. the less you pay up front , the more you'll have left to pay later. If that were possibly a CE that got repainted, it may be worth the price.
