Got a question for my much more knowledgeable brothers (and sisters!). At a show today, someone commented on my AIR pump and said he was somewhat surprised to see it. I assumed he meant because virtually everyone removed them but he said no. What surprised him he said was the fact that the pump was there on a 69 small block (350/300). He said that unless the car was a California car, only big blocks had them. Is he correct?
All 69 Corvettes, came with an A.I.R. pump. From the base 350/300, right through the 427/430 L-88, the A.I.R. pump was part of the standard emission, on every 69 built. California or Federal emissions, it made no difference.
I know that I am absolute certain of some things that aren't really the case [since I attained an 'elevated' age]. But, sometimes, I just get things confused...

Pretty sure he was....amazing coincidence (and I've only had a few Shock Top's) is I could swear his plate is the same as yours (his car is a 71 LT1 and NY of course). Curious what others will chime in with...like gbvette 62, thought all 69's had the smog pump.
Perhaps he was thinking of the small block 350/300 installation that was in the 69 Chevelle's, among other models. I bought one new, and still have it. Mine is a 4 speed. The automatic 350/300's for some reason did not have an AIR pump. I know because when I removed my AIR pumps (on both my 69 350/350 Vette and the Chevelle) I wanted exhaust manifolds that didn't have the tube holes that would needed to be plugged with brass plugs. I discovered the automatic versions didn't have them. So, that might explain the mental mixup.
