Hi sug,
All cars were assigned 'job numbers', (in sequence 1-500), to help the production line workers keep track of what car was in front of them and what needed to be done to it.
The were also other crayon notes written on the under body for the same reason.... a/c, p/b, p/w, for example are seen in various places.
Regards,
Alan
Keep an eye out. You may find 424 in other places, especially on the rear of the underbody bulkhead and passenger's side toe kick. You may also find assembly line shorthand and see it as "24".
Just curious, but does your VIN end with 076? For some model years, you can subtract the last three digits of the VIN from 500 and get the job number (424 for you if your VIN ends with 076). For other model years, there is no correlation between VIN and job number.
