Default Corvette community help network

Hey all,

I need some input on this idea, I've been a member here for a while now and visit the site numerous times daily. I've learned a ton about these cars from the valuable resorces (you guys) that are here. personally, I love the C-3's and am thrilled anytime someone rescues one from oblivion and brings it back to life. to that end, I am always willing to help anyone I can accomplish that feat.

I also read alot of posts from people who are new to 'vetts and the whole mechanic thing too, we've all been there at one time or another. alot of use have managed to accumulate knowledge and equipment over the years that some have not.

here's my idea, I'd like to see if we can get a network of volunteers set up that would be willing to help those who have less experience working on cars. this site is GREAT for gathering info and helping with diagnosis of problems but that can only go so far before you need to put eyes, ears and hands on the issue, thats where the volunteer network would come in.

for example, I am fortunate enough to have a decently equipped garage, I have a compressor, Air tools, jack stands, sand blaster, misc hand tools, some speciality tools and even a small makeshift paint booth, I also recently acquired a nice Sata gun and have a decent dryer system setup. I would have no problem with someone bringing their car over and helping them take care of some issues. for that matter, even using my setup to paint their car if needed.

I'm not saying "lend" them your tools but maybe get together with them and let them/help them use them with your supervision, or even using some of your knowledge to help them figure out an issue.

I know there would be tons of things to workout from a liability standpoint but I doubt anything would be impossible.

do you think we have enough people willing to help others out to make this a reality??

I belonged to a car club some time back that did exactly the same thing for its members and for members of associated clubs. One member even owned a well-equipped car service center (chain outfit) and several others had well-stocked home garages. The accumulated knowledge and availability of places scattered about the area to work on the cars helped a bunch of members fix things that they normally would have to pay big bucks to have done. The only stipulations were they had to actively help, pay for their parts, and then return the favor sometime. This wasn't used for minor things but for more significant and technical types of work. It was a real benefit for everyone plus it was a great gathering place to toss back a few and bench-race a little.
