False 230 temp reading

Watched the temp gauge slowly creep up to the 230 mark so pulled over in the shade and shut everything down for 30 min. Engine didnt appear to be running hot, etc.
Temp gauge was back at 190 on the way back home, but slowly went back to 230 again.
I got home and the hottest temp reading I could find on the actual block was 215, more like 195 at top radiator hose.
Simple problem solved...temp sender was full of grease and oil. Cleaned off brass fitting on engine and and used some crc spray on the plug end. 45 minutes in traffic and the temp didnt budge above 205 with the AC on.
If any of you have been running a bit hotter than usual lately, I would start by cleaning off your temp sender.
