I'm a new owner of a 1973 LS4 convertible. I was told that there are "pillows" that are placed in the folded soft top in the boot to protect the plastic window from cracking. Does anyone know where these fitted pillows can be bought? Thanks
Seems to me a dish towel would accomplish pretty much the same job. I don't see how the pillow can protect against cracking... more like scratching. The most significant flexing and hence crack risk occurs when the top goes up and down, which the pillow won't do much for.
Easy Mike, Thanks for the link. That's exactly what I was looking for. I ordered it just now. I was at a car show and another vette owner told me about the pillow and how well it works.
I have the pillow in mine. Keeps a nice gap, separates the clear plastics so no sticking or scratching. I have to say, this is the first I've heard of using a dish towel - they are only what 16"- 18" long and pretty thin. First I've heard of the towel approach, is that what you use? In my book, if everyone swears by the pillow and have no issues, why gamble and experiment? It's a no-brainer item you never have to be concerned with IMO.
I keep a large soft bath towel in the back. When the softtop goes down, I roll it up, and put it in the window to keep it from creasing. Works great, after many years, the window is still clear, and scratch/crease free.
