When I got my 73 the AC won't engage. I got the heat/AC control working and found a missing ground on the compressor.
now everything is working except it's not getting cool. if I push on the little charging valve by the compressor , it releases pressure.
does this mean the system just needs charged?
also i have a couple can of 134, can that be used on a 73 system ??
Unless your system has been converted to r134a it has r12 in it. You can not mix r12 and r134a together. When a compressor is low on refrigerant it should not kick on so as to prevent it from burning up.
Go to any competent automotive AC shop and have them test your system. If you have a leak, they'll find it. If it needs a charge, they can do it. R12 is expensive but still available in most places.
