I'm using a drill to pump the oil in a motor that hasn't run in twenty years. I have the tool to reach oil pump which direction do I set the drill to spin and how fast?
I think you'll find that unless you're using an air drill or a very powerfully electric, your drift will run out of oomph and regulate its own speed. When it finally primes there should be a fair bit of back pressure.
I wouldn't go crazy with using a high speed drill but pretty much anything a battery operated drill can do will be fine. Once primed, I switch to the low range.
Also remember to keep the valve overs in place and just check them periodically. You'd be astounded how far the oil will shoot out of the top of the pushrods when priming. This oil spray will inevitably find something that you don't want oiled. Ask how I know.
I smoked an old non-variable speed corded 3/8" drill doing this once. I since bought a more heavy-duty variable-speed corded 1/2" that does this job nice and powerfully slow to prime those closed cavities.
Anticipate the resistance because cold engine oil flows like syrup. Good luck.
