if the second worm gear is stripped, replacing it would just be a band aide. The dash is too hard to get in and out to put a band-aide in there too. When the first worm bushing goes out it causes the first and second worms to eat each other up... if the gear is already plastic then someone has replaced it already. The original gears were steel and the damage to the 1st worm (at location A below) from the second worm when it was steel, is what caused the speedo to eat it out the second time.
As far as I know, the tach and odometer/speedo in my 70 work just fine......they did when I stopped driving it. Before I put it back on the road, I want to have the tach and speedo rebuilt to new condition..once I get the dash re-installed I don't to remove it. Do you, or do you know who, restores these things. I have a NOS odometer/speedo with 0 miles on it. I think the colors of the silkscreened mph numbers are incorrect so I think the odo/speedp faceplate needs to be rescreened. The tach is from a 70 BB engine with a relatively low redline.. I'd like to upgrade the redline...I have a couple of tachs with higher redlines (LT1's?).I'd like to have one rebuilt for the 70.

Thanks
Yes, I can fix this... that's not a problem and can use the parts you have to do it..
How much for the rebuild and how long will it take? Also, would you need the speedo seperated from the tach, or can I mail the whole housing?
You would remove it from the housing and dash pad but keep it in the metal can for shipping. Always go over-board on how you package the speedo or tach. Do not tape cardboard over the face in an attempt to keep the needle from being damaged. This usually leads to the needle being broken and/or the speedcup shaft being snapped in shipment. And always use UPS or fed x and insure the shipment. (if damaged, claims though the postal service are murder)
I'd have to see it to give you an exact number on how much, our repairs are not a fixed price but based on what the speedometer needs.
