That's right, you should spend it the way you want. There is nothing wrong with your decision to go with Champion and return policies are no different. But when it comes to the product, there is a difference.
The Champion (and Eagle) are one in the same and made in China. Now that doesn't make your radiators or you choice a bad one it's just a fact.
My experience with China suppliers was not good because of the inconsistancy. You might get a batch of really good stuff and then the next batch is really bad. It's kind of a crap shoot and the reviews on CF support that.
Companies like Be-cool, Griffin, Ron Davis, and DeWitts are all made 100% in the USA and they all cost about $500 because that's what it takes to survive in our economy.
There are material differences, in grade and thickness of the aluminum we use. Most China radiators will balloon the tubes at 40 psi, when ours will go to 75 psi. That is something you'll never see, but it's there.

Now I don't want to start another polar thread on right and wrong, nobody is wrong. This is a choice based on several personal factors
I'm only trying to explain what's what.

I will toss that extra dime to Tom for his priceless comittment to helping out the customer I know Champion doesnt offer that...I have tried to talk to them many times,
I didnt just buy a American made car part and help a forum vender I made a friend.

And the cases you listed a good stock replacement would have likely worked too over the bad one being replaced people forget that.

I'm planning on purchasing a Dewitt once the sale begins. I have been researching this for about a year. Dewitt is as far as I can find is the only one that offers a direct fit for a LS conversion. I talked to John Dingman last year about this.

I have a question for Tom, not sure I want the ice black or natural finish. Is there a cooling difference between 6139073A and 6239073A

my engine is a 454 LSX

Thanks,

Tim

I have a small block that had been fitted with a big block radiator by the previous owner. I was talking to Tom on the phone and he caught the difference and prevented me from ordering the wrong radiator. As far am I am concerned Tom is the product!

What would be wrong with putting a big block radiator in a small block car? I'd think it'd just help keep it cool...

If I remember correctly, the SM mounting shroud is smaller so if you mounted a BB radiator it would cover up some of the core. But if someone changed it to a BB shroud then a BB style would fit best. I believe this is the case but if wrong I'm sure someone will chime in.

Thanks Tim! When I am able to order a radiator from Mr. Dewitt I do plan to get one with the e-fans on it so no shroud would be used...

I'm talking about the metal frame that the Radiator mounts to. I likely did not say it correctly.

Like I said before it is your money, spend it the way you want to. I have spoken to Champion and have had no problems with customer service or the product.

I got my Dewitts Radiator with dual fans over a week ago. Took about three hours for the install and was much easier then I thought it would be. The only downside was the rubber mount pads I bought new for the bottom and top, I had to trim them to fit. The Dewitts Radiator is wider. Dewitts may have the correct rubber pads, if you order a radiator, you may ask them. Great product and works - Well satisfied.

I didnt disagree with your way of thinking for what you like or want, but I do believe that Tom knows way more from hands on than Champion does and the times I called champion for tech info they didnt know and had no one there that did, perhaps you got lucky,

For people who are on a budget or just want to roll the dice and run the import I say go for it, the few extra toad pelts I spent on Dewitts was very worth it for me, but not to you so we are both happy with what we have and I am done with this, no beating dead horses from me.

haven't installed mine yet waiting to do the frame swap but I have swapped more radiators in vette's than I can count,
A few that were all stock and the replacement matched the bad one things slid right in but like with my 69 bb car, it had the wrong radiator and the mounts were tweaked, I do not expect the new Dewitts unit to just drop in because I wouldn't expect any replacement to just drop in,
in addition in my case Tom made mine custom for me so I do not know if that changed anything.
In addition I was doing some testing on the Ford cooling fan, I love the two speed fan but the shroud doesn't look good or fit the c3 well, my plan there is to use the ford motor and fan and make a new shroud but in hind site I should have just bought the dual fans and been done.

Zip Corvette sells an aluminum replacement radiator for $100 LESS than Dewitts, and guess who makes it? Dewitts!!! I picked one up for $360 with a coupon.

I LOVE it!!!!! but I can't say this would help me,
Tom custom built mine and for a price that was lets just say made custom vs china no contest...proud to have been able to support the good old USA working man on this one......but I assume Zip bought enough to be able to sell cheaper than Tom but I will wait to hear more on this......

It's the same core but the top and bottom aluminum strips are not polished. I don;t care about shiny stuff so it was perfect for me.

in the second pic on their site you can see the Dewitts sticker on the top.

To be fair we need to wait for tom to chime in but i do believe and could stand corrected that Dewitts sells core to other companies,
I didnt csare about polished out either but the silver color screams high end high tech to me......

Yes we do manufacturer that item for dealers only under our Copper Replacement Program or (CRP). As mention above, it has slight detail changes that cost us less and we can pass that savings along. The program started with Zip and will be expanding to others shortly.
