Default Thinking about a Dewitt's Radiator

Well my factory radiator had started leaking today and first I thought I'd get it recored but if it's going to cost me almost as much Asa. New radiator, why not go with a new Dewitt's radiator?

I'm leaning towards part # 1239063M, just curious, do they stock their products or are they made to order? Just trying to figure lead time is all, thanks!

I just bought a Dewitt Radiator a couple weeks ago. It did take about 10-14 days to be built. I think they are made to order but not certain on that.

It was a pretty easy swap for me. I still have my original but glad i went with the Dewitt as they seem to cool even better than an original that has been recored..

It was very easy for my to pull mine out, took me all of 20 min or so. My thinking was that I could get it recored but in the back of my mind I'd wish I would've gone win an all new unit. Not to mention it's hard to argue with Dewitt's reputation.

I'm not sure how much inventory they keep on hand but I received mine within 8 days. Very happy with it.

The other thing about when you get the original recored, it doesn't mean that a year down the line it won't leak again.

Atleast that's what i was thinking when i decided to switch out my 40 year old radiator for a new Dewitt..

I am thinking about one for 2014 but will wait for Tom's January/February sale. Sales are slow at that time of year and some small savings (~10%) can be had. The savings are never large.

I bought one from EBay, Champion makes it, fits perfect and works just as good. Half the price. It dosen't have to be the most money to work.

I have heard this before, many times, so you have just opened up (potentially) a huge debate again. And Tom has defended his business quite vigorously. And with some strength I must say. If the Champion fails do you send it back to China?

If your new replica wheels fail, will you send them back to China?

Why would you send it to China. You would send it back to the vendor you bought it from, located in the USA. You would do the same with a Dewitts.

That dosen't look like a Chinese address.

I can't speak to the quality of the Champion radiators, but I can to the Dewitts direct fit radiator I got from Zips.
It fit perfectly with no modifications and came with new rubber mounts. It has quality looking welds and has performed flawlessly since I installed it last year.
There are few, very few, parts on my corvette that I have purchased so far that I would endorse. The Dewitts radiator is one that I would. I am impressed with the quality, function and fit of the radiator and it does a great job keeping my engine cool even on 100* days with the A/C running.
If you got time wait for a sale. If not and you don't have the money you can try the champion, seems to work for a lot of guys.

If you didn't buy one of toms and test it against your import then you can't say that.....and Toms isn't the most money.

I have given Tom so much hell and BS on here about his product he deserves some payback from me,
I always looked at the Import Ebay units, did too many hours of research,
First off I have called them none were "radiator" tech's or perhaps not even car people just sales people,
Tom on the other hand has spent all kinds of his time on the phone with me clueing me in,
I believe that some of the china imports might be a less expensive fix for some,
But then some units are not as good as the next, I am talking a big slack lack of quality control on the import units. why take a chance why 1/2 *** it?
Next I have a problem child, I live in Florida, very hot, I have a warm 454 and must have cold AC and auto tranny.
Tom whipped me up a custom built larger radiator and the cost wasn't that much more than a import unit.
"You get what you pay for" that expression many times irks me, it's not always the case anymore but I can say that in the case of Tom AND his product it IS very true, I received the unit from Tom, packaged top shelf, and while I have not installed it yet I have no fears it will be a perfect fit and if not Tom is a call or email away and has hands on personally worked on these, can the China importers say that?

I am self admitted one of the biggest big mouth, pain in the *** bargain hunters on here but tom won me over big time.

I have used Champion radiators in 3 of my cars. One is in a prostreet GTO with a 540 big block and never gets close to warm. I had one in a 77 vette with a 540 in it and never any problems. And the other is in my 383 1980 vette and no problems. If you have a problem with Dewiits you send it back to him. If I have a problem with Champion I send it back to them, in California. No difference.

It's your dime, spend it the way you want to.
