Default 1970 Engine bay pics.

Need some help from members here. I am putting my wiring harness and vacuum lines back in the engine bay after cleaning/detailing. Can some members post some detailed pics of the routing of the vacuum lines and wiring harness? I have the aim but its pretty hard to follow a black and white print out. Pics tell a much better story.

Here's what I was dealing with prior to engine removal....

I have a few engine bay pics in this gallery. The pics with the Chev valve covers are older pics. Might help.

Hi k,
Sorry I can't help with 70 engine compartment pictures. The 70 is just different enough that my 71 pictures will be misleading in many areas.
In the compartment I believe there are just 4 colors.... white small hose (relay function supply), yellow large hose (actuator supply), green large hose (actuator - open), and red large hose (actuator - close).
I believe if you read carefully, all the stripe colors on hoses is called out where ever hoses are shown. It takes a bit of study but the info is there.
In the AIM there's a sheet for the headlights, the firewall, the wiper door, and the windshield/headlight washers.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Default 70 pics

Mine is a 70.

I choose not to use a third party host for pics(photo bucket)

This forum really needs an upgrade to allow pics to be uploaded directly from a computer.

I am happy to email pics directly if you want to give me your email.

Let me know if there are any areas of particular interest.

Like Alan says, 70 is a little different than 71.

Well I decided I need to get over it regarding photo bucket.

Below are a couple pics.

Let me know and I may be able to take some more pics.

I just detailed the engine bay on my 70 today. I can get you better pictures if you want them. This is just the before and after pictures I took for my own viewing pleasure.

Before:

After:

I'm still detailing the engine bay. Those pictures are after only a couple of hours work.

Study your pic and compare it to the AIM diagrams. Most of what you see in your pic is stock. We can agree Bubba has been there, but he could have left you a bigger mess than what you have.

Those are some great reference shots of detailed engine bays, 1974ta and Iceaxe. Very nice.

Gorgeous. I'm glad you got over the photobucket phobia, you did a great job detailing, right on down to the master cylinder cover bail tag.

Hi Bill,
The pictures of your engine bay certainly show some VERY careful work on your part. Lots of very nice little details.
I know all to well what it takes to get it looking like that!
I hope we'll see more of your work now that you've accepted PB. I think I just passed 2600 pictures there.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks all for the great pictures. I was hoping to see some close ups of the wiring harness along the firewall. Going to study the AIM some more and see if I can get them right. I always seem to have problems putting wiring harness' back in a car.....

Hi k,
It's pretty difficult to show the engine harness connections once it's installed.
The main connection areas are:
Alternator
Temperature sender
Horn relay
Wiper/washer
TCS
Heater blower motor
Starter
These are from my 71 which will be a bit different than your 70 but may help a little.
Regards,
Alan

Like Alan says, you cannot really see the wiring harness well once everything is installed.

The wiring follows under the wiper motor and along the firewall. There are couple clips that will give you a good idea of the actual routing.

71 is almost identical in terms of wiring.

Alan, do you have a picture of how the side vertical ignition shields attach on the bottom? I have headers installed and am curious if I will have room for any brackets or bolts they use.

Thanks

Alan, Thanks for the pics. I see plenty of differences on the 71 now that I have been studying pictures. The TCS system is different. The wiper vac canister on the 71 has a 90 degree elbow that sends the red stripe vac line to the right towards the wiper bottle where on the 70 the vac line comes straight out. Do they route to different places? It looks like mine should be heading back to the left side. The 71 also does not have the wiper door vac relay and the relay next to the vacuum tank has different connections.
