Dumb Mistake
)Personal opinion:
I've owned and maintained several Brit cars and 'cycles. When they work, they work great. When they don't - it's usually because of some strangely engineered 'mini-part' that can wreak all manner of havoc.
Example:
Few years ago, I was driving along a stretch of country road in my '52 MGTD. I began to hear a strange 'buzz' from under the 'bonnet.' ('Hood' for 'Mericanos.) When I got home I popped the bonnet, lo and behold, the venerable SU carb was peeing gas on the HOT manifold pipe. Stankin' smoke was wafting off the iron. The thought occurred to me: if I'd driven just 10 minutes longer, would I had been cooked like a well done English beef roast?
Long story short: I adjusted the pot-metal 'arm' that controlled the 'mini' float, ensured the fuel system was safe, then put the car on Craig's List the following day. Even after 10 years, if a ride wants to fry me, it's kicked OUT of the 'gerridge' with extreme prejudice.
My story. I'm stickin' to it.
