They say it is not a dumb mistake if you learn from it. While walking around my car at a recent cruise in, I noticed one of my spark plug wires had come out of the spacer. I reached over to clip it back in and ...... you know what that little rubber cover over the hot wire on the back of the alternator is for?? I do!!! I knew it was missing but didn't think about it. I shorted out the hot wire to the alternator case with my metal watch band. Removed a large chunk of skin on my wrist, toasted my watch bank and severely hurt my pride. Valuable lesson learned ..... Where can I get the rubber boot?
I checked Zip and the correct part is $10.50, the after market part is $3.50 but shipping is $7.95. I checked a couple of parts houses but need to check a couple more. I will also check a place that repairs alternators. There is little chance I will do that again, but someone else might ....... once.
