Default we need a new special section

we need a new forum section,
a special place for former workers/engineers from gm plants in st.louis/bowling green, that can help remember things about how these cars are/were put together, the ways things were done, there is so much knowlage they have, just think of the inside things they know, and maybe pics of these plants,it should be broken down in c1,c2,c3,c4,c5,c6,c7 ,they could get special avators/lifetime memberships and points for getting their co-workers to join too

Yes.....but we would all have to promise not to SCREAM/YELL/CUSS/THREATEN any of them when we find out why they knew about the interior heat-soak problems---but did not solve them.

I think that it is a good idea. Maybe an added section for people like me. I worked in maintenance at the original MTD (Modern Tool & Die company) plant in Parma ( Cleveland, OH ) for 34 years. We made Corvette parts and other car parts, besides lawn mowers, until they made us strictly automotive parts. They closed our plant in 2007. I have tried to spread my knowledge on this forum. these people would know the ins-outs of these cars, and how the assembly lines worked as in when constrants happened, what they did/do when they run out of parts, the little things might ge the puzzle pieces that somebody needs,,like loup68,what did he see when parts were made, there are probably 10,000 people that have worked on these and other GM cars/trucks thru the years

..ahh, just-in-time manufacturing; the stuff Toyotas are made from (and a few Chevys).

The assembly line was never supposed to run out of parts. Folks in the front office were tasked with taking care of that and making sure the blue collar crew had everything they needed to keep the line rolling.

Offhand, I cannot recall a work stoppage at St. Louis due to parts shortage. There was a slow down on big block production for a bit due to weather at Tonawanda. A blizzard stopped truck traffic and Tonawanda could not ship. Peter LiCastro lists it in his book.

I recall C5 production was once briefly stopped when Bowling Green could not get the fly-by-wire accelerator pedal assembly and a second time when they could not get outside door handles.

Surely you (and others with similar experience) can post here or in Tech as you see fit and deem necessary. I don't personally see a need for a new section.
