77 with a 78-82 back window?
Looked at a very nice 1977 corvette today. It had the bubble back window, just like the 78-82. It has the " stingray" chrome badging on the front fenders, like the early 70' models did. The title states 1977, the owner says that a few do these were released in late 1977 with the bubble back window. Is this true?

Just for fun, what is the VIN?

There were like any model year car the begining sales of the 1978 Corvettes were manufactured in late 1977 but are the 1978 Model year and the title would say 1978 on it. Most new model year cars are released after August of the previous year and are available on the showroom floors in September and October of the previous year.
It would not be hard to install a 1978 rear clip onto a 1977 Vette. This could very well be a FrankenVette
As far as the Stingray badges on the front fenders they were dropped after 1976 and the 1977 was just a Coupe without Stingray badges and had Flags where the Stingray badging were. I own a 1977 Vette and have done a lot of research on the different years because when I was shopping for one I was looking at a few 1976s, 1977s and 1978s
Even though the 1976 and 1977 share alot of similar features they are also a little different on the interior. Carpets in the 1976 and 1977 are unique and do not fit any other model years if I remember right when I was looking for carpet kits for my sun faded 1977 carpets.
The 1978 guage cluster was completly redesigned.
I would get the VIN number and look it up like others have suggested.
Here is a site that will help with that

Hope this helps

Pass on this 77. Stingray fender scripts ended with the 76s; this car has them. Big back window did not appear until 78; this has one. Makes you wonder who's been playing with this car.

My guess is that this is a 78 Corvette with a 77 VIN. Its alot easier to replace a windshield and VIN tag than a whole rear clip. But you never know, I have seen some of these cars pieced together from all generations of C3s.

Hi Larry,
Welcome!
I don't think anything has changed or any new information has come to light that would indicate any 77 model years cars left St.Louis with a 78 style rear window since this thread was started in 2013.
The window was added sometime after your car was delivered to the first owner.
Sorry!
Regards,
Alan

Ive seen all kinds of misinformation , myths or just out right con artists,
I had a tipsy bar owner ready to bet me his bar vs my vw trike the 67 corvette was the year of the metal body,
Some people perpetuate myths with no harming intention
But some are con men trying to put one over on someone,
I have also ran into guys who will fight you until death that you are wrong and their misinfomation is correct
