Being a Proud Veteran. I always reflect on the thousands who never came back home and the thousands that came home horribly scarred for life.
What really bothers me is our present ruling government. They all sat by and watched in real time our people being slaughter in Benghazi. Then when Hillary Clinton our Secretary of State was called in front of the senate “What difference at this point does it make?” Clinton said angrily.
because they are already dead and people don't matter to them
I feel sorry for anybody presently in the military serving under these horrid unpatriotic people.
I served under 4 presidents. The last two Ronald Regan and Bush Sr. made you proud to be an American.
Regan didn't put up with BS and dug us out of the hole that Jimmy Carter created.
Bush Sr. let his generals do the planning. I was scared before Desert Storm facing something like the 4th largest army in the world. It was all over in days.
Today vets get 10% discount at Lowes and Home Depot. Free meal at Golden Corral. Free bread sticks at Little Caesars Pizza. Free seats at pro sporting events, etc.
Folks stop and applaud when service men/women walk through an airport in uniform. Simply being in any of the uniformed armed services qualifies as hero status no matter that not everyone served in a combat zone or was ever in harm's way.
I got spat on and called BABY KILLER! Not in San Francisco or Chicago airports, but my own home town.
What has changed from 1971 'till now? I was also a volunteer. Do a handful of Al-Qaeda suicide bombers strike more fear in the general populous than the whole might of Soviet Russia did?
Thanks to all our veterans and military personnel. And keep in your prayers the families of those who made the ultimate sacrafice. Freedom is not Free.
Very thankful for the freedoms I enjoy today, thanks to all who have served and to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for both our great nations.

...
All too often, the late 60's and early 70's hippies, progressives, and low information voters targeted our Southeast Asia veterans with their vile public actions. Not all of us who either served or had friends/family serving during those times practiced that bad behavior. It was not a good time to wear the uniforms of America's Military.
I'm glad that you survived and I hope that there's still room for grateful citizens to say "Welcome Home, Brother and Thank You, for your sacrifices."

Hey U17, I can dig it. (Oops, showing my age again...)
Our club was in a Veteran's Day parade earlier today in a small northern Colorado town and I was priviledged to share the fun with an 85 year old Army Sergeant who served in the Pacific Theater. It was moving to see the joy in his eyes as we paraded slowly down the street and waving to all the smiles, hello's and Thank You's from a grateful crowd. A memory for both of us, not soon forgotten.
May all vererans enjoy good times and healed bodies.
Screw the politicians - the one in the White House doesn't understand this country.

Thank you to all those that have, are now and will serve. Thank you equally to those who did not serve for your dedicated support. It really does mean a lot!!!

Still serving, I am currently deployed to Afghanistan till June. I read the forum everyday when I get time. It is my stress reliever. Thanks all for the posts

Thank you to ALL the past, present, and future veterans. I cannot possibly imagine all of the sacrifices that you have endured to preserve my way of life. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
