I have seen cars with varying amounts of orange paint on the steering knuckle. Some only have dabs of orange on the bottom end where the lower control arms meets. Others have dabs of orange paint on the top portion where it attaches to the upper control arm and some have it on both. What is correct for 1971? I can't find any mention of it in the judging manual. I have also seen dabs of green paint on the knuckle. Thanks for the help.
You won't.. The marks were inspection marks done at the plant. Your best bet is to purchase a frame detail kit which will include the instructions for marking your frame.
While judged correctly, I don't have much faith in the accuracy of what is deemed correct either. I've found way too many deviations from what is deemed correct that it drives me nuts. The SWC we did had almost all the original marks on it including the marks on the rear end, gear box, spindles and springs.. no jived with what was deemed correct...

IMHO,

Most of the cars that I have taken apart that had the original markings differed from what most judges are looking for no 2 seem to be the same. Have taken many pictures over the years.
