Squealing Brakes. New rotors, pads, calipers the whole she-bang. Still squeaks and squeals.
So, I read about rotor run-out...Yep have that issue. However, I am trying to wrap my mind around how the hub could be so far out...I mean looks to me like you would really have to hot something very very hard to get this issue.
I have cleaned the hub and still have run out.
Darn hubs are very pricey and I am not 100% convinced it would solve the issue.
sounds like you really don't understand rotor run-out. You will have to use a dial indicator and shim the new rotors until there is no run-out. This takes a little time and luck to get it right.-there should be a video of how to do this on line. It could be the pads you put on, some are harder than others, causing more noise when applied.
Why did you replace the rotors, are they stock replacements??/ Tell us more of what you did to the car.
I also get a little bit of brake squeak in the back of my 80. It comes and goes but only squeaks at very low speeds, less than 10 mph. I will probably adress it this spring when she comes out of storage
Replaced the rotors with OEM do to the squealing. Could see at some point in time (before I owned it) where they had gotten hot.
I do understand runout. Did buy the guage was waaaayyy out..so much so that the shims I have found come in 2 sizes only and using the largest still would not bring me back into tolerance, and you cannot or should not piggyback shims.
Today took the rotor with hub and had it cut with the hub on...Had to shave quite a bit to get it right. In process right now of replacing back on and checking the runout.
I just cannot stand to have squeaky brakes and the shoosh noise like the rotor is hitting/rubbing.
No did not try the $ 5- solution first. So used to everything Corvette costing $$$$$...lol
Anyway, first rotor/hub cut now within factory tolerance. Just picked up the 2nd one and we will see. Sure hope this solves the issue!
I hope it does! The rotors should not have to be machined. I have 103,000 miles on my rotors with no issues. They have never been cut. Some pads, particularly semi-metallic, do not agree with my 1974. They will make noise. I use Hawk ceramic pads with the compound above and all is quiet.
I fought the same issue of squealing with my 72. The parts manager at O'Reilly's assured me that the Wagner ThermoQuiet pads would stop it. I havent heard a squeal since I replaced them 8 years ago.

so are you saying that the Wanger ThermoQuiet pads did or didn't squeal? (seems like you're saying the squeal stopped when you got rid of them 8 years ago) i'm very curious because i just bought and put a set of the ThermoQuiets for the fronts...
