I wouldnt call them "hatchback" per say, because that is usually a term saved for small imported silly looking cars. I usually like to call them big back window corvettes or bubble back window corvettes. They made them from 1979-1982, with only a few (the 1982 CE) cars having a true opening back window. All the rest have fixed non moveable windows, making the term hatch back not really apply. They all have the trim around the window, but was painted black from the factory. Over time the paint wears off, leaving some with the chrome look.

My wife was the original owner of a '79 (early build), and the trim was blacked out. However, I seem to recall seeing a number of '78s, back in the day, whose trim was natural stainless silver color.

78 pace car & 79> had black trim
reg production 78 had a different flavor depending on when it was made. (bright outer with black inner or all bright stainless with no paint)
