Default 1979 hatchback crome around window ??

Folks,

I like the "hatchback vettes", esp 1979 and 1980.

What years have the chrome or aluminum around the window??

I wouldnt call them "hatchback" per say, because that is usually a term saved for small imported silly looking cars. I usually like to call them big back window corvettes or bubble back window corvettes. They made them from 1978-1982, with only a few (the 1982 CE) cars having a true opening back window. All the rest have fixed non moveable windows, making the term hatch back not really apply. They all have the trim around the window, but was painted black from the factory. Over time the paint wears off, leaving some with the chrome look.

Bubble window first year was 78, and I'm not positive but I think the window trim could come in aluminum or black.

They are neither chrome nor aluminium, they are in fact stainless steel, they were painted satin black on all 79's but I cant be sure about other years.

My wife was the original owner of a '79 (early build), and the trim was blacked out. However, I seem to recall seeing a number of '78s, back in the day, whose trim was natural stainless silver color.

Our 79 is silver, with no signs of ever being black.

Trim color made be a minor point. What you need to understand is that the back glass does not open on any of these cars except the 1982 Collector Edition cars.

Good material here. It will give you an idea of what you're looking for. Order a copy.

We have this discussion every few months Here is the 79

78 pace car & 79> had black trim

reg production 78 had a different flavor depending on when it was made. (bright outer with black inner or all bright stainless with no paint)
