a friend is getting an '82 with 7K miles and supposedly all original. would this be a survivor car? how old does a car have to be to be considered a survivor? thanks all.
I feel the term "Survivor" is thrown around a little too freely these days. Maybe not in Corvette judging terms but in general. You see cars advertised as "survivors" but while being all original the are in terrible condition. These cars clearly did not survive. I feel a true survivor looks "almost" like a restoration but is in fact not.

Here is my 72 "Survivor" ….It was wrecked last month, so it will loose the original paint. The car just shines and looks amazing. A lot of people think it is restored, but it is far from it. Still has the spare tire with 71 tags (It was built Dec 14, 71)
So I might not be able to say it is a survivor after this…unless 1 repaint and a little body work still counts…
This is what a "Survivor" is, as in receiving a Bloomington Survivor award:
The SURVIVOR® Award is designed to recognize those Corvettes that are "worn in, but not worn out." A SURVIVOR Corvette is significantly unrestored, unrepaired, or unmodified and meets these requirements:
1. Is over 20 years old
2. Can pass a road test over 10 miles
3. Remains over 50% unrestored, un-refinished, or unaltered
4. Retains finishes good enough to use as a color guide for restoration of a car just like it
Judges inspect four components. Cars must pass at least three of these four categories in order to become SURVIVOR Certified: Exterior, Interior, Under Hood, Chassis

All other uses of the word are basically slang and informally mean whatever the user thinks it means that day, like "a driver."
