Might be getting this 72 Stingray
Personally......if I had a money-tree...I'd buy every "old car" (vette) that I could find whose owner was a "grandpa".
And since this is the holiday season....he obviously has "visions of sugar-plum-Vettes" in his head.
History needs to be preserved
'72 Corvette-tool to achieve want you really want, a Nissan 350Z
I don't get it, just like you don't get/have an appreciation of a true classic car, that will only increase in value, vs the other two, which are plentiful, and fast depreciating.
I can only hope that the '72 Vette eventually falls into the hands of someone who appreciates it.
My condolences to the grandparents.
If I was them and heard what he was going to do, I would NOT be giving it to him.
He better have a long talk with his grandparents BEFORE he trades away a gift like this. They probably think they are giving him an incredible present, something they have been holding on to for years, and he is treating it like garbage. This could do some serious relationship damage.
Just my 2 cents.
If the grandparents are ok with what your friend is planning on doing then there will be no conflict there. Now think about this, if the car that you trade them breaks down in the near future, the grandparents may hold you accountable and give there grandson grief because they could say... look, we gave you a good running car and a classic at that. I understand that not everyone has the $$$ to put into a 72 to make it stand out but as was mentioned before, the feeling of driving my 73 on the open road is an experience that is hard to describe. I was away from home for a month and a half and when I got home I kissed my wife hello and left my suitcase in the garage and took my Vette out for a 2 hour drive. Sorry I'm rambling....
As for the other guys here on the forum, I remember when I got my license & the car offered to me to drive was a 59 *****'s jeep that didn't have a seat in the drivers side so I used a lawn chair. That's how bad I just wanted to drive. 8 years ago when my daughter got her license, she didn't want to drive the wife's Mazda because of the color. WTF happened to today's kids? I think that JMC should get the car from the other kid and hopefully either trade or sell it to a mature person who will appreciate the true value of this classic and take care of it as such. Just my 3 cents.
having been a teenager in the early sixties, i can testify that gm, mopar and ford killed as many young men as the then ongoing south east asian conflict.
