The Y-pipe that comes off the exhaust manifold on my 81 has a smaller size restriction in it where the O2 sensor goes. Is this normal for all 81's? I have installed a new crate motor and have eliminated the computer and all smog stuff. I would like to know if there is a Y-pipe that I can buy that will fit and has no restriction? TIA

Buy the dual exhaust from corvette central. It runs down the passenger side. You can just hook it into your mufflers if you don't want to change them.
No reason to screw around with a Y-Pipe if your deleting the smog stuff. The AIR pump pushes fresh air into the exhaust stream to keep the cat hot. Are you putting in a bypass pipe? Rather than all that I would go to a true dual system
I'm a first time corvette owner. I have the engine out and I' m getting it rebuilt . My question is . If headers are purchased ( bought to fit a 1981 ). can they be assembled first then lowered in, already installed ?
