Hey R, thanks for the info. I saw that picture in the Paragon book. Problem I have is that my crossmember does not have the attachment holses for the lower metal shroud brackets and I'm stumped about this unless my frame has been replaced.

Anyone out there no what the correct configuration is?
thanks,

AFAIK, the only '69 L46 cars that had an aluminum rad with an expansion tank were manual transmission without A/C. All other configs had copper/brass units, no expansion tank.

I dont think that is correct, I have had several 69 L46s and all had copper rad no expansion tanks with or without ac, L46 only had manuals only

Bizzoco lists only one L46 (S/N 701363) that did not have A/C that used an aluminum radiator w/ a surge tank. Right before, he states, "small blocks with 4 speed, 350 HP with no A/C were fitted with a copper radiator, plastic shroud... and no surge tank."

Clearly it is not cut and dry, and possibly an early engineering change eliminated the aluminum radiator from the L46 build.

one car made one way does not proof anything, maybe the rad was changed at some point and Bizzoco missed it.

You're right, Bizzoco could have made a mistake and was not able to discern that the car had replaced the factory copper radiator and installed an aluminum one in its place while adding to it a factory overflow tank w/ correct RC-26 cap. Of course, the owner correctly installed the metal shroud as well.

But, I do tend to trust the man who literally wrote the book on the 1969 corvette. One car may not prove anything, but it opens the door to questions (such as a possible engineering change in early '69 to the L46 cooling configuration). It does, however, discount any statement that says "all L46s had copper radiators w/ no expansion tank."

I do not discount your knowledge w/ these cars, but please consider that the several cars you have seen/owned may not be a fair representative of all '69 L46s. Blanket statements in the corvette world tend to have many holes in them.

Getting ready to put that very short piece of hose on the top of the fuel filter. I think in your one pic with the yellow circle that both fuel and vapor lines are even at the top. Was not sure if it was a lot higher
Thanks
