All C3 emblems were the crossed flags. Granted, appearance of the crossed flags changed through the years, but the basic motif remained the same. First type had the red flag with the fleur-de-lis and a small Chevy bow tie. Second type for 82 had the fleur-de-lis removed and replaced by the Chevy bow tie.
The use of the fleur-de-lis for the Chevrolet trademark goes way back to the time GM purchased Chevrolet from Louis Chevrolet. He was a Frenchman.
I'm not certain why the flags swapped sides beginning with the 84s, but it would have been in keeping with the the fact the C4 was an entirely new car.
