Crossfire problem
I have owned my 1982 in bright blue for 22 years and have been using it daily...even with the gas at $11 a gallon!
The problem I have is the car starts but the tick over is only 4500 to 5000 RPM, it drives okay, but it is starting to cut out as I come to a stop. It does always start again but its not ideal!
Previously it did sometimes start up at 2000 RPM and then come down only when it had warmed up.
I have read the sticky on it however I just wanted to know if anyone has any other solutions to the problem?
Thanks in advance for your advice & a happy new year to all corvette owners!
Derek
The injector can become clogged over time and I would suggest running a TBI injector Cleaner through the fuel system. If that does not work you may need to replace the injector. Since you are in the UK I do not know how to point you to parts and services.
But here is link to ebay on replacement parts and it requires 2 of these for the 1982 Corvette.

.....sounds like you do enjoy your 82, having owned it all of these years......
I imagine your reference to 4500 & 5000 RPM's, should be 450 & 500.
And this would be at idle when warmed up, correct???
If that is so, then when the engine is started cold, your fast idle will come up and on my 82 goes up around 1300 to 1500 r's depending on the weather. I also use my 82 as a "dd" and have learned that on initial start-up to sit there for 3 or 4 minutes to let the engine warm-up some and the idle to come down. This way you will avoid any stumble or hesitation when you start to drive. You may have a vacuum problem, IAC's may need cleaning or replacement, same with Injectors, etc., etc., for the surging problem that exists on your engine.
Your problem can be one of many small items or a combo of such, therefore, (and thanks for reading the "sticky"), I would do the following:
1-reread the "sticky", especially the IDLING CONDITIONS
2-start from the beginning, don't know how you maintain your vehicle, but you may be in need of a tune-up, replacement vacuum lines, sealing the intake with a new gasket, etc., etc., & etc.
3-although time consuming, you need to do one step at a time, to eliminate one possibility at a time. this will help you understand the
CFI better and also getting the engine to run as expected.
Most 82 owners have their idle @600-650, in "D", and 700-750 r's in "P" or "N". The consensus is that the factory setting of 450-500 rpm's is to low for our engine @ idle.
Might not be the answer you were looking for, but you have to and should make sure all of the components are in proper working condition for the CFI to perform as it should, good luck, keep us posted.
With the help of us 82 owners and the available info, we'll get you running good again................Tom
