Default Delivering/transporting a vette

I have purchased a 1981 and now trying to figure out my options to have it moved from the Atlanta area to the Chicago area.

My first thought is to just drive my truck and flatbed trailer and go get it. But also have thought about paying a transport company.

Thought I would ask if anyone knows of a website that I might look into where maybe I could offer to haul a car or anything else down to Atlanta since my trailer will be empty....help cover my expenses.

Thanks,
Phil

You can contact Intercity for a quote to have them pick it up and deliver it. They are a sponsor here and did a great job for me..

I have used InterCity, Thomas Sunday and Minuteman, no problems with any of them.

Thanks for the suggestions guys...

I have contacted some of the transport companies but not liking $$$ what I am hearing....keep thinking I will just put that money in my fuel tank and get it myself

would love to drive it home myself but then who would drive my truck/trailer home? just not sure I want the first trip to be almost 800 miles

blackvette....I will make sure if I hire him I have over insured the car first

I decided to put an add on CL and see if someone needs something going that way....see what happens

pictures are on my phone....haven't learned how to move to the computer....will have to get one of the kids to help

I am excited to get it...

I bought my car in Albuquerque, NM and drove it home to Salt Lake City, UT

After 10 straight hours and 600 miles I was ready to sell it. Road tripping that far in a classic reminds you just how nice the new cars really are.

It took a couple weeks before I started to like my vette again.

Looking for someone on craigslist I think could be worse than going with a shipping wars type of arrangement.

If pricing is an issue then maybe consider getting a bunch of quotes and have companies bid for your business. The bad news is that there may be some red tape and delays. Good news is they will have insurance and you will still be protected.

Get some quotes and see what happens. When you find some that respond look up their reviews to see what others have experienced with that particular company. Good luck.

Post adds in every city you will be going through on your way there. Might get lucky and offset your trip some.

If you are close enough pick it up in person. Nothing wrong with that.
If you are not on a highly traveled route, Changes things a bit. Call several companys.
I use http://gt-ms.com/ With good results but its $$.

I read this article today. I will never use a transport company again. I had mine transported from GA to NJ and Thomas Sunday told me 3-4 days and took EIGHT weeks. I could've pushed it home faster.

I wasn't comfortable driving an unfamiliar car a long distance. I would have had to drive through Dallas with questionable brakes.

I used Passport Transport and was very happy with their service.

make sure there is a penalty if they don't deliver on such and such day, and make it a harsh penalty, so they will be on time.

I used these guys, with a fully enclosed truck so no damage from elements and road debris... they moved my '73 from VA to SoFla in 4 days.

I'd have to agree with this. Granted, I've never made it more than 30 miles away the house with my car...yet...but that's another story altogether.

I LOOOOOOOVE my car around town. Love it. Love the quickness. Love the attention. Love the noise. Love everything about it.

Got stuck driving it around town one day...all day. Had to make a whole bunch of stops and didn't get back until that evening. It was OK, but sucked a little bit of the joy out of the experience.

I had it on the interstate once. Didn't quite like it so much. It drove fine and was pretty comfortable, but those other cars looked pretty ominous from my driver's seat.

...of course this is from a guy that has an F250 diesel as a daily driver.

As to the original question: I wouldn't hesitate to drive down and pick it up myself. If you own, or have ready access to, a capable truck and trailer combination, that'd be the easiest answer to your question. I'd already have it at my house if it were me...

if you want good service and depend-ability from a company, you will have to pay for that! Cheap companies give cheap service(usually)

Drove mine when I bought it from Pensacola Florida to San Antonio Texas at the beginning of September 2012, it had no carpets, no weather stripping no AC, was hot and muggy as hell but I enjoyed the ride and even got a nice welcome to Alabama from a blond who was proud of her hooters, she had good reason to be too

You've already got a truck and trailer. I'd leave Friday after work and be back EASILY by Sunday....done. What, you didn't factor what it was gonna cost you to transport home when you bought it? $500 all in.
