I have a 1969 corvette convertable 435hp car and the 6th number in the VIN is 9, that makes it a 1969 if im correct. the trim tag reads C20, what i have been reading is this is OCT 1968? any help is greatly appriceated.
The 6th digit of the VIN, is the model year identifier, so a 69 would have a 9 in the 6th position.
69 Production began in August 68, and ran until December of 69. The trim tag body build date is made up of a letter for the month, and numbers for the day. The first body was built in August, and carried an "A" for a build date month. Bodies built in September are identified by a "B", and October bodies are dated with a "C", just like your car.
A 69 built in October 68, would have a body built date starting with a "C". In the case of your car, the body was built on October 20, 1968, and the car itself was probably completed a couple days later.
Go to this website, and plug in your year and the last 5 digits of your VIN, and it will give you the approximate build date of your car.
...These dates seem confusing to me? How can the tag read oct 68 and the VIN read February 22, 1969...
The G in the time/build code can sometimes look like a C.
If your time/build code is actually C (October), your consecutive unit number will be between 3042 and 6272. For a February car (G), the range will be 14696-17571.
G20 would indicate your car was on the assembly line and passed the station where the trim tag was attached on February 20. The car was not complete at that time. It could have been completed by the February 22 date you have found.
