Default 78 L48 top end build

Bought the Vette 8 months ago, rotors had the original rivets along with the 2-1 exhaust system. Amazing durability of the OEM parts; although all calipers were leaking, 1 out to 4 functioning. Changed all rotors and calipers, wanted to stop as well as go fast, ha ha ha

Finished top end build:
Summit Aluminum heads--62cc Chamber, 170cc Intake Runner
Edelbrock aluminum intake--Performer Intake Manifold
Edelbrock Carb--650cfm
Summit cam--Similar to the L79 grind
Sanderson shorty headers
Dual exhaust with Flow master mufflers

Still breaking in the cam, attached is a sound clip with dual exhaust.

Thought I finished all the mechanicals; however, when I tried to adjust the clock, the reset shaft came out . Anyone know the trick to get it back without taking the cluster out?

Nice build! Did a similar upgrade except I went with a retro roller cam,low end torque was vastly improved....Good to see another Hawaii Vette....What Island are you on? My Vette cruises on the Big Island... Luv Hawaii except for the cost of shipping parts, geez it has gotten pricey in the last couple of years!!Here's my car...

Yup,and rainbow on the plate! Safety check got more stupid! They take a picture of your car with an Ipad ,it gets submitted and your car either gets approved or not. Then goes in a database,so when you get stopped by a cop they check for any changes to the vehicle.Oh well at least no emission checks,so far!!

Sounds good! I hope to get to my top end in the not too distant future...

Hey Bill, was thinking about Hawaii's safety inspection this morning as a matter of fact and was trying to remember if emergency flashers was one of the checks, I haven't been able to get mine working but Texas doesn't require them for a safety on classic cars.

Iokepakai,
Thanks, and nice looking ride. I'm on Oahu, and agree, shipping is a way expensive on anything more than 15 lbs.

Thanks, hope I don't have problems with the safety check. Exterior looks stock, and sound wise it's not too loud.

Oh yeah everything has to work,or no go with the safety check...Before you could go to another station to try and pass, hopefully the next station would skip the fault or just tell you to fix it later. Now with the new system you go in a database as a no pass and your flagged!! Older cars that had no factory seat belts will not be allowed to pass,You will have to install belts. On another topic the State is requiring all watercraft operators to complete a boating course and you will rcv a certificate that you must present to a state official if stopped. No certificate big fine!End result mo money for the state...Politicians want to protect us from ourselves, while making our wallets lighter..
After your top end build, you'll need an OD trans! Do the hot cars still hang at Sandy beach,Friday & Saturday nights?
Will be posting up some pics from our clubs winter cruise in....

Iokepaki,
Thanks for the heads up, know a couple of safety check shops, but was before the new system. I know one shop good; will ask if can pass before going official.

Sandy beach slowed down after patrol figured out nice straight pass. Easy pickings for the new BMW solo bikes.

Look forward to your pics, used to belong to the Corvette Club (when I had my 75). Will probably rejoin and find out where everybody hangs.

Your right on the OD, went out to the Windward side today; at 60 MPH revs over 2,500. Glad owning a Vette not expensive, ha ha ha

My first ever speeding ticket was HPD's finest on a Harley.Never saw that buggah, heard the siren!! So they got BMW's now....
OD totally worth it,money well spent.Got a 6spd Richmond in my vette, really enhances the driving experience....Always liked that color combo on the 78's...Classic.!...Luv cruising the windward side up to the north shore...Of course that was 30 yrs ago ..
