It was a well documented, ZR-2. Hardly a run of the mill car. Very nice price but, does not have much impact on the general C3 market. That is not the real world as I know it anyway.
I agree with Mike. As a result of that sale, someone without C3 knowledge will now think their POS sitting in the pasture somewhere is now worth at least half of that.

Oh baby just now an '67 L88 - 1 0f 20 - goes for 3.5 million $! No day driver but OMG 3.5 mill! Before that a '68 L88 race 1 of 4 race car sold for 2.6 mill $ but i didnt even get to post that before the '67 sold for $3.5 mill. Corvettes are king today at Barret Jackson.
Any of these original cars are true gems. But the performance of them is really poor by today's standards. You can build or but a C3 or better for way less than this and drive the heck out of it and enjoy it. I like to see this stuff but the prices are just stupid. I applaud the guys who have the coin to do this but it is a piece of art, not a toy to have fun with. Ill take a base corvette and put way less dollars i. It and out perform these mega dollar cars anytime.

Those auction cars are all garage queens. A lot of money to spend on something that's essentially the performance equivalent of a potted plant.
Early C3 big blocks are ill handling, rough riding, gas guzzling pieces of crap. I know, I have one. It took me a lot of time and effort to get it to handle well, ride well, and be a little more economical with the fuel.
If I see one of these auction cars sometime out with me on a track day I'll publicly apologize and say I'm wrong. Until then, why all the interest in overpriced garage queens?

Well i had to share the news here. Kinda lucky i wasnt trying to eat lunch or i may have needed a Heimlich maneuver (no longer called the Heimlich by the Red Cross doe to copy write law) for the airway.
Kinda puts more pride in my C3 as i never could spend for a C2. And ya know i see fewer C3s on the road these days but when i do they seem to look cooler every time. Not as hot as the new C7 but cool enough to own and drive without complacency.
Did anyone see today's prices coming? I sure didn't. The Owens Corning race car went for a million dollars and today the Rebel race car went for 2.5 Xs that.
Where's the ceiling? Is there a ceiling?
The Green ZR2 vert sold for 446k a couple years ago at Mecum Monterey, which is all original unrestore, and a Green ZR2 coupe, restored sells for 450k at BJ.A 68 L88 sells for 800k,Rebel racer sells for 2.5m,the C3's are starting to bring big numbers.Russo and Steele had 2 LS6 that were going to auction, will post prices when i check the results.
All these early model c3 go up in value and my 81 stay the same. Even had some horses rear end offer me $2k and tell me that was way more then it worth. It felt good to slam the door in his face and back to my drink.
