Default Pulling TH350 2 items how to remove.

I am pulling my TH350 auto trans from my 1978 corvette. I have 2 items I dont know how to remove.

1. The filler tube from the transmission
2. The kick down cable at the carb.

1. Seems to be a push fit but wont budge at all. And nothing to grip on.

2. The kick down cable at the carb, the problem is the cable isn't long enough to push forward to get the hole to line up over the pin. I could remove the carb but I am lazy and tired of pulling **** off. I cannot find any way of removing at the trans also ?

Need help thanks....

The filler tube should have a mounting lug welded to the side of it which is attached under one of the bellhousing bolts. Once that bolt is removed, the tube can then just be pulled out of the main housing (it has an O-ring seal on the housing end of it).

The T.V. cable (called a kickdown cable in error, even though it does perform that function also) has one end attached to the carb linkage and the other end is inserted into another hole in the tranny main housing. That tranny end has a retaining flange and a single mounting bolt on the housing. Once that bolt is removed, you can gently lift the cable far enough out of the housing (it is connected to a spring loaded lever on the valve body) to unhook it from the T.V. lever.

Having removed many many transmissions while working in a trans shop, the T.V. cable should be able to be removed from the Carb linkage. If you need more slack in the cable to remove it, remove the throttle/T.V. cable mounting bracket and then you should have enough slack to remove the cable. They are sometimes a pain in the *** to get off but it will come off.

Well even with the bracket remove I dont have enough slack. I remove the carb to allow it to push back far enough to release. Then once the top part was off then I could see the hook that allows the bottom end of the cable to be removed. And the filler tube I just #*&@#$*@# until it pulled loose. Since this is the first time it has been worked on / removed, I guess it had to fight me. The unit still works but leaks in a few places. And I hate leaks. After 33 years and only flush / filter and fill every 80k km it has done me well. Now that it's out I might consider putting in something else. TKO 600 if they fit without any cutting etc. ?????

I realize this is an old post, but I thought what I learned in my 80 last week may help someone else if they find this thread with the same problem. The OP is correct and maybe this is an issue with late model C3's like his 78 and my 80. You cannot get the cable off at either the tranny or carb end even if you take the bracket off. The solution is that the tensioner section of the cable, i.e. the part in the bracket has a cable release on it. It's just not obvious. Also, at least up to the 1980 shop manual it states to remove the hook at the bottom, but you cannot see that hook until you release the cable from the carb which you cannot do until you pull the release on the tensioner.

Here's a link to a thread I started which has photos to illustrate this. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...g-th350-3.html Go to post 51
