Default Rear filler panel question

The rear filler panel on my 69 needs more work than the cost of a new one. Which is better? Hand laminated press molded? The hand laminated is cheaper. Just wondering what others have done. As always, thanks for your help.

Your choice. Originals were press molded if that is important to you.

Most people that replace that panel have come on here and complained what a pain it was to get them to fit right, either press molded or hand laid. You may have better luck if the replacement is a genuine GM part, a used original. Otherwise, you will have to tweak either style.

I used a press molded one on mine. It was a pretty good fit with a minimum of work to get it to fit correctly.

We only install the press molded... Test fit it before you ever paint it including the exhaust bezel and license lamp bezel... you shouldn't have any issues.

I installed a hand laid on my 69 and was not happy with the fit at all. It was short from side to side. In other words, if I lined it up on either side, there was about a half inch gap on the other side. I ended up cutting it into two pieces and fitting each side and then bonding and glassing in the gap I now created in the center below the license plate cove.

Point is that I'm not sure if there would have been any difference between the fit of a PM or HL but if I were to do it again, I would go with PM.
