Default Title Ownership

Hello Vettesters,

I recently aquired my first Corvette, and I'm curious, does anyone know how I can go about finding out how many owners she has had? Do I do a title search through the DMV or what. The dealer I bought her from doesn't seem to know. Thanks for your help.

Hi Geoff,
This is a question many owners ask but for which there's not a good answer.
Most DMVs will not give out any prior owner information.
Many owners become detectives using what ever information they have.
The fact that the dealer isn't helping will make even getting started difficult.
What year is your car? Have you looked for your cars VIN listed in any of the on-line Corvette registries?
Did you get ANY kind of paperwork with your car?
Regards,
Alan

Also knowing what state you are in might help and get a little better response from people that have been in your shoes in your neck of the woods.

Good luck on your search.

Default More Info

Hi Alan,
My car is a 1993. I know it was made in Bowling Green, KY. I believe it was sold in Virginia and then shipped to Washington State where I believe it was put into storage (Military maybe?) as the front tires were 11 years old and the rear were 13 years old. All brand new, I might add. Who ever owned it in Washington sold it to a dealership in Palm Springs, CA a year ago, where I bought it from. It is a convertible, Artic white with Torch Red interior and has 58K original miles on it. Looks like it just came off the show room floor. I haven't checked any VIN reg sites as of yet. I do live in Northern California. Hope this helps.

I don't think the DMV's can help you any, it's now against the law for them to disclose the previous owner's info

it seems to me that if you run a full car-fax report on the VIN, it will come back with how many other owners there have been and where but not names or personal information on them.

You've already got more information on your car than a lot of the rest of us.

A title search through the DMV may give you additional locations and times, but you are not likely to receive previous owner information through the DMV.
