Got a Christmas card from the guy that owns the local gas station down the street. He heard my '80 will be back on the road soon. In it he said "I'll be seeing you again, and again, and again, and again...."

20mpg from my 69 L46 4 speed 3.70 rear, 600 holley vac secondaries,
no air, no ps on long trips. Never bothered to check around town.
My daily is a 2011 Grand Cherokee 3lt diesel and just averaged 30mpg
on a trip from Brisbane to Sydney with 2 weeks running around and return.

'74 smallblock, Muncie and 3.36 gearset.
I usually drive at about 65 to 70 mph on the highway, so about 2800 to 3000 rpm cruise.
Only about 13 to 15 mpg. Ugh.
Just leaned out the cruising A/F ratio. So I'll see what it does on the next tank.

My 77 with the 427 Dart SHP - SBC doesn't get very good gas mileage with a 4 spd and 3.70 gears. Lots of smiles though.

I am looking to install a 5spd or 6spd which will give good performance in the first 4 gears but will give decent (hopefully 20mpg) gas mileage in 5th or 6th on the highway.

My 77 in stock form got 16 mpg at best.

After side pipe install, carb rebuild, electric fan install and 2400 stall torque converter it got 22 mpg.

Now it has 270 duration cam on a 108 LSA with Dart SHP heads and 9.9:1 CR and gets 19 MPG.

All of these numbers are with a TH350 auto 3.08 rear, A/C running and power steering.

That's a good reason to drop 3 mpg!

Gosh... half the fun of driving a classic is pulling into a gas station, popping the hood to check the oil, and watching the crowd gather to admire your beast.

With that said, I've never bothered to check my mileage, but I know it's not good because my foot is often buried in the quadra-toilet well into the fun factor.

Neither. I was being facetious.

Seriously, best I can determine is in the neighborhood of <>12MPG. Do a lot of town driving. I'm still dialing in the carb idle and have to deal with a sticky choke. So there's some fuel waste happening.

Default .....7-8

7-8 mpg ,,,427. L-88 , 4.11...... At freeway speeds I swear I saw the fuel gauge move to E. The principal reason it only has 28,000 miles on the odometer, plus the fact the 5 year warrantee ran out in 1973.....

back then

today...or 46 years later

That's the best mine ever got with highway gears. I'm down to 13 mpg with a 3.54 rear gear change. I think my new motor with more power and better efficiency will get at least this much or better.
