OK so this is my Father in law's 1980 . He bought it fairly cheaply. Had been sitting out in someone's yard for about 2 years or so. Had lots of backyard butchers work on it in the past. Had a lovely paint job on it....it was peeling and bubbling all over. Windows didn't work and the heat wouldn't blow.......but he loved that car! So i painted it for him. Base coat/ clearcoat. sanded all the old junk off first. did a little body work, then blocked it flat. After i painted it i wet sanded it and polished it till it looked like a mirror. Fixed the blower motor, and rebuilt the window regulators. I hate window regulators, but i'm getting better at working with them. He's one happy camper....just waiting for spring...as am I!
Thanks for the compliments...yeah black is the toughest color to paint if you want it to look perfect. it shines just like a mirror- so any funny waves in the bodywork distort the reflection. white is much more forgiving!
Yeah i really like it! Back in 1980,, the corvette was one of the reasons i went to college....i figured i could buy one when i graduated...then in 1984 they doubled the price of the vette and i couldn't buy a new one.....i did end up with an 86 back in the early 90's. i loved that car and drove it for about 8 years......i guess i NEED one of each generation! one is good for now though.
yeah the doors were a real pain....especially the time i closed the door, and had the locking actuator adjusted wrong and the door handle was JAMMED....egads! I don't remember how i got out of that one.....but i was more careful after that.
