Initial startup problems....
You need to adjust the "centering" via valve balancing.
Raise the front wheels off the ground.
Start the engine.
Beware of the wheels moving on their own.
When they are properly balanced they will not move.
Yours will probably turn left by your description.
Now, turn the adjusting nut located under the dust cap at the end of the control valve until the wheels just change direction.
Don't turn it until the wheels shoot the other direction - you're just looking for a neutral posture (not pulled either way without steering input)
You should then be able to center them and have them remain still. If so you're done.
For safety you're supposed to do this with the piston rod only then reconnect it. You're call on that.
Or you could pull the drivers wheel so you don't get hit and have easy access to the valve.
Thank you very much for the structured advice on the PS woes. Left turns normally, right turns are about locked and makes the PS pump belt squeel like a ......well, it squeels on right steering wheel pressure.
And here is the way I got the inoperative oil pressure gauge to operate. It was very very simple really.
After about six or seven starts of the engine, confirming good oil pressure with an external gauge, cleaning out the oil line, and still noteing no oil pressure on the car's gauge, order a new one! The exact time delivery of the new gauge is confirmed and it's on it's way, the old gauge will miraculously start operating as normal.
