Hi my stock alternator on my 79 Vette has died , can you suggest a brand/model for a Alternator which I can bolt on with minimum changes .
My Corvette is Auto with Air and its stock I may put thermo fans on sometime down the track so I would like enough output to handle that
Your feedback would be appreciated
I had a Power master 140amp on my '78 Camaro for 4+ years a and never had a problem with it. I sold the car with it on it. I too got mine through Summit Racing.
Just go down to your local parts store and ask them for an alternator for a 1979 Corvette. Pretty easy item to find and most will have it in stock. Probably run you just under a hundred bucks.

make sure to spend the extra 10 bucks for the premium lifetime warranty unit
Get a 100 amp or larger alternator to cover any electrical upgrades....
you may also need to upgrade the 12V+ wire to the BATT+ terminal on the alternator................and upgrade the battery charging wire that goes from the alternator wiring connector to prevent overheating of the alternator and wiring once new electrical components are added to the system.
rebuild what you have on the car now, especially if it is the original alternator. You can have it rebuilt or rebuild it yourself. There are videos on how to do it and if the bearings are ok it won't take an hour to do. Just a few hand tools to do it. Almost more time to take it off and put it back on, than to rebuild it.
I just replaced mine on my 82 just last week, it had the wrong 70 amp unit and factory calls for 85. Advanced had the Remy (AC Delco Remy) for $70 ish with a lifetime warranty. And even though Auto Zone doesn't carry the same brand they matched there price of $59. Had all the right colors to it too. Very happy.
The stock engine has a fan shroud with belt driven fan yes? Stock alt is good. Add electric fans you will heat up that stock alt. unit. An upgraded alt should be a direct bolt in and wont cost that much more.
I upgraded mine as my voltage would drop off with a hot engine (alt would not keep up) with a single fan, ignition unit and Electric Fuel pump, total draw 30 amps. Maybe a bad new unit, but as soon as I put in a heavy duty replacement the voltage did NOT drop off at all.
I say dump the stock and upgrade. Dual fans alone could require 40++ amps. If it were a waste of money or time i would not waste my or your time suggesting it.
Keep in mind that the wiring on the vette is still engineered to handle that stock alt and load so keep tabs on your stock wiring.

The red wire connected to the solenoid should have a fusible link between it and the solenoid. The link should be 4 wire gauge sizes smaller than the red wire. If the red wire is 10 gauge the link should be 14 gauge. FLAPS sell links.
