Default 1972 Vert price??

I'm looking at buying a 1972 Covertible. It has numbers matching 350. I'll post the rest of info below. I'm hoping someone can help me come up with a good market value (not a retail price). If you have any suggestions or point of contacts that might can help I'd appreciate it. Here's more info:

This 72 Vette is a very nice car and has had a frame off restoration. The car has a 350 numbers matching motor with many NOS parts used in it's restoration.

This Corvette comes with a matching red hard top and a black soft top
This is a true red Corvette convertible with black interior
Color Code for Mille Miglia is 973 For Exterior Paint, Black Interior Color Code 400.

This car does have some performance upgrades and is as fun to drive as it is to look at it

Factory radio restored
The car did come with AC but never restored
Original spare tire with sticker still on the tread
Electronic ignition
Hooker headers
Holly four barrel carb
Chrome holly intake
Chrome vette valve covers
High performance cam (about 400 hp)
Automatic transmission
Radial TA'S

check the completed sales on ebay. that should give you an idea of what the cars are really selling for.

Hi cary,
A 72 red convertible NICE!!
Some pictures would certainly help someone come up with a $$$ value.
Are the original parts that were taken off the engine still with the car?
On a car that is described as "numbers matching" the more of the numbers matching parts that are still on/with the car increase it's value.
So, a few pictures?!
Regards,
Alan

This is one example, but don't stop there. The internet is your best place to spend your time. Look at ProTeam, Corvette Finders, Hemmings, Corvette Trader, etc.
At some point you will have a good sense of what pricing pertains to which cars.

Regarding the one you've mentioned, assuming that all work and components are top notch, you could be easily into the 30k to 40k range.
You may also consider a qualified inspection from an authority on Corvettes, specifically frames & birdcage. Many of these cars are dressed up to look pretty with frames that are disasters.
Florida cars are no exception.

Again, internet searches will provide a wealth of information on this topic.
Good luck in your quest.

I have to ask, why do you think its worth that much? Maybe if it was a LT1 or a BB, it might be worth close to that amount, but a base engine convertible worth 39k? I just don't see it. In my opinion, that car would sell for between 25k - 29k tops.

As for the OP - assuming the base engine convertible had a frame off restoration, that would be my guess on value 25-29k.

Can you please show me an example of any base engine convertible 72's selling for over 30k? I haven't seen one, and unless the market has turned around drastically without me noticing, I find it hard to believe that it exists.

Professional frame-off resto, seen the car in person. I said close in price, so maybe 36k max. Nevertheless an example for the OP.

For starters:
http://www.vettehound.com/geo/classi...hp?a=2&b=10417 $29,999

http://classiccars.com/listings/view...isconsin-54915 $39k

http://www.autotraderclassics.com/cl...ationId=474952 $33,999

Now I have to admit, I don't stay on top of the market but I think you're a little off on your pricing. 25k for a frame off restored '72 roadster? Maybe 15 years ago.
We are still talking a chrome bumpered car.

I know things took a beating a few years ago, but not that bad. Plus, a frame off restored LT-1 is still going to be well above 40k. Probably 50 to 60 in some situations.

As far as price goes I don't really have an opinion. Guess it's worth what you want to pay. I think you should look a bit closer at condition though. I've had my 72 vert for 40years now and turned 60k miles last summer. All original and not restored. From the looks of those pics they weren't too particular on the restoration. Engine bay looks terrible and if you did a frame off wouldn't you return things closer to original? I see msd, headers, non original air cleaner, etc. Also look at the pic of the driver's side interior. The interior trim piece that runs parallel with the vertical weatherstrip looks like it came out of a junkyard. I guess what I'm getting at is if you're going to spend that kind of money you should be getting a beauty with everything done, and this ain't it. Don't take all of this the wrong way. I'm actually on your side and don't want to see you spend that kind of money on a car of this condition.
Duane
I was looking at the example someone else posted and thought that was the car you were looking at. Sorry bout that. If the 72 you're looking at is frame off fully restored, then its worth what you want to pay to become the new owner. Good luck with you decision and transaction.
Duane
