Default Big Block cast date vs assembly date

Does anyone have a big block in their car they believe is the original motor that has a cast and assembly date separated by three or four months?

That's a bit unusual, but not impossible.

Well Mike you should be able to imagine this. The car is a 1968 Silver coupe with a 427/435 L89 motor. It has the original tank sticker, window sticker and dealer order.

Any reason to believe the block is not original?

Hi Bh,
The documentation you list gives credence to thinking this was an L-89 car.
The question you're asking is whether this is the engine block that was in this car when it left St.Louis.
Two different things!
I hate to ask…. what's the pad look like?
Is there something about it that concerns you?
Regards,
Alan

I am pretty certain the engine I got with mine ( had a 502 in it when I got it) is original. however the original owner had it decked in the late 70s so I can't prove it. it has a cast date of feb 28 1972 and the assembly date of the car is june 6 72.

I have two 1971 LS6 Corvettes, the cylinder case casting dates preceed the assembly dates by 2 months 1 week.

A guy in my car club has an original 1970 with an LS5 454.

His block was cast before the strike and installed into the car 7 months later when the strike ended.

What's the engine assembly date on the pad?

Wish I could remember the stamp pad date for you.

But when our chapter was over at his place looking at his engine block, we counted off the dates and came up with a 7 month gap that he said coincided with the strike.

He has a Regional Top Flight award with the car, so I am sure the judges looked at it very, very carefully.

and I haven't ever owned a 1970, so I haven't ever had a personal reason to dig into this deeper.

boy, I am not much help am I ....

Flight awards have nothing to do with authentic stamp pads as frequently mentioned.

There was no strike for the 1970 model year. The 1969 model year experienced a strike. The 1971 model year experienced a strike.

Did your car club pal actually have a 71?
