did you brush the door and the weatherstip with a thin smooth coat. more doesn't mean better. too much adhesive weakens the bond. both surfaces need to be dry to the touch. warm air does make a dif. I do 12" or so at a time. it should stick immediately if it's cured. good luck.

Just a thought, did you by chance "mix' the tube contents. I mean that by "kneeding" the adhesive from one end to the other to get an even mix. I had just used adhesive right off the shelf at times to get only the solvent and not much "glue". Maybe a brand "new" tube maybe the route to go.

I am thinking with a good prep, warmth and an even "mixed" adhesive it should work. Good luck to you.

Did you use any lacquer thinner to wipe down the weatherstrip surface getting the adhesive? There are mold parting compounds that stay with molded rubber parts; I don't think the manufacturers clean them at all.

Check the directions on the 3M tube. It probably wants a balmy 75 degrees so it can go barefoot.

Have to agree with Mikey on this one. I think the ambient temperature is the problem with your installation. Since you were able to clean off the adhesive, just be a little patient until spring finally arrives.

3M 8008, or 3M 8011? The 8011 is for EPDM rubber.

This would be my guess. I changed mine last year, recall leaving the doors open for a period of time to allow the glue to dry. Closing them early could be disturbing the positioning, pulling them loose.

Note: When I finally did close the doors they closed hard for the first day or so until the weatherstrip compressed on the front side.

We clean the mold release from the new weatherstrips, clean the area to be glued.

We then put a thin bead of glue on the weatherstrip, a thin bead on the area to be glued and allow them both to dry. We then apply another bead to the weatherstrip and install. I've never had this method fail.

Let it dry 100% with the doors open. When you close them, you think they will be better held in place but I bet they are getting moved around. I bet if you repeat what you did and let them dry with the doors unlatched you will have better results. I have installed a few weatherstripping kits and have never had the result you do. Interesting.

The one thing that keeps coming back to me is I see that you cleaned using the adhesive remover but I didn't see where you cleaned the adhesive remover off. Even though this was on the door and not the weather stripping, I just seems like the remover needs to be cleaned off very well also. And I agree with the temp being too cold for a good curing. I would wait until you are in the 70's.

Hi There ,

Just wanted to chirp in my 2 cents to this one .
I had the same issue as you have and no matter what i did the seal just wouldnt stick and then i had to spend hours trying to get the adhesive off the door , was a real pain in the butt .

In the end i put a scotchbrite mop in a drilling machine and locked it in the vice , switched it on and locked the drill switch on with it running in slow , then i took the section of seal i was going to put adhesive on and ran that edge lightly over the rotating scotchbrite brush , this roughened the smooth surface a little , dont press too hard or you will burn the rubber .

When i put the glue on the seal and the door i just touched the parts together and it was stuck fast . If you glue it wrong you have to buy a new seal it wont come apart again !! Try it you wont have that seal come loose again .
