What is the correct location of the #1 plug wire on the distributor cap?
I know it doesn't matter as long as the firing order is correct but, what is factory correct?
Terminal to the left of the door?
or
Terminal on top of the door?
Left of the door and right of the vacuum advance canister but you can clock the distributor anywhere you want to give the tach cable a straight shot at the firewall hole.

Thanks guys, after some internet searching I tend to believe you are all correct.
I guess my way of thinking had it wrong.
If you were to start #1 on top of the door (with conventional distributor indexing) only 2 wires would have to pass across the cap, 3 & 2.
The way the factory did it, 4 wires pass across each other, 1/2 & 3/6.
After looking at the picture Paul posted I can see there was a variation in the sequence of the 68 Corvette.
I know I'm way over thinking this, but that's what I do when it's cold and snowy out and have nothing better to do.
