Bought a 71 coupe last year & only got (1) key w/it. It works just fine, but it is an aftermarket. Wanted a GM key so I ordered one from one of the corvette vendors. Called for "A" so that is what I ordered. Took it & had it cut & it will not fit in the ignition. It seems to be too thick, won't even go in partially. Does this mean the switch is maybe from a different year?
Hi RH,
Does your new key and it's 'keyway' look like the old key and it's keyway?
If they're different that would indicate the ignition lock, and door locks have been changed.

Alan

Any chance of a picture of your old key?
I do not know what you mean by keyway. If I can figure out how to download a picture I will, but don't count on it. Or maybe I can get my wife to do it.
Hi RH,
The letter on the key (you mention an A) describes the position and width of the longitudinal slots in the key even before it's cut.
An B key will not even begin to slide into a lock that's set up for an A key.
That's why you may be sensing your new key is too thick…. it's the wrong keyway.

Alan
